Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurial Development (CIED)
We help grow tomorrow’s entrepreneurs today. UCSC’s Center for Entrepreneurship (C4E) offers a rich, collaborative network of resources. We connect students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community through cutting-edge teaching practices, internship programs, and relevant scholarly research.
Connecting campus and community. We participate in community-related entrepreneurship events, including events sponsored by Chambers of Commerce and technology clubs and organizations. We have regular meetings with regional technology leaders, seeking advice and cooperation. We cooperate with the City of Santa Cruz Economic Development Office to co-sponsor student internships that place UCSC students in regional start-up firms.
Creating entrepreneurs. We sponsor brown-bag lunches and evening seminars that introduce faculty, researchers, and students to leaders in business development, including venture funding providers, attorneys, and tech leaders. We also sponsor courses that teach students the basics of business design and help them turn ideas into prototypes backed by business plans.
Building a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. Recognizing the importance of job creation and the innovation economy, we advocate improving the ability of faculty, students, and researchers to move innovations into wider social use.
